A Taste by the Sea, Discovering the Fresh Seafood Delight at Kedonganan Fish Market

Behind the hustle and bustle of Kuta’s vibrant scene lies a hidden gem for seafood lovers—a coastal culinary haven where you can enjoy freshly caught seafood straight from the hands of local fishermen.

Kedonganan Fish Market is not just a place to buy fresh fish; it has evolved into a must-visit culinary destination for anyone seeking an authentic Balinese seafood experience.

Located on Jalan Pantai Kedonganan, in Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali, Kedonganan Fish Market is a popular spot for seafood enthusiasts.

It is situated close to Kelan Beach and is easily accessible by car or motorbike. The journey from central Kuta takes around 15 to 30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.

The market is open daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (local time), with its busiest hours in the late afternoon when visitors flock to enjoy the beach atmosphere while shopping for fresh seafood.

Here, you’ll find a wide variety of marine produce including fish, shrimp, squid, crabs, and even lobster—sold fresh and directly by local fishermen.

After selecting and purchasing your seafood, you can bring it to one of the nearby food stalls that offer cooking services.

These warungs will grill your chosen catch using traditional Balinese spices such as sambal matah and base genep, a signature spice blend of Jimbaran-style cooking.

The grilling fee ranges from IDR 20,000 to IDR 35,000 per kilogram, usually including rice and sambal.

Seafood prices at Kedonganan are relatively affordable: fresh fish starts at around IDR 25,000 per kilogram, clams from IDR 10,000, shrimp and squid at approximately IDR 65,000, and lobster priced at IDR 125,000 per kilogram.

Bargaining is common practice here, so don’t hesitate to negotiate.

Initially, Kedonganan Fish Market served only as a traditional trading place for fresh seafood.

However, as demand from tourists seeking freshly prepared seafood on-site grew, many vendors began opening eateries offering grilling services.

This shift has turned the market into one of Bali’s favorite culinary destinations.

For those who crave fresh seafood in a peaceful beachside setting, Kedonganan Fish Market is the perfect spot.

Visit in the late afternoon to savor your seafood feast while enjoying a breathtaking sunset over the ocean. (BT)
