Kura Kura Bali is a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) located on Serangan Island, South Denpasar District, Denpasar City, Bali Province. This 498-hectare area is dedicated to the development of the tourism sector and creative industries.
The designation of Kura Kura Bali as an SEZ was enacted through Government Regulation No. 23 of 2023, signed by President Joko Widodo on April 5, 2023.
The primary objective of establishing this SEZ is to accelerate job creation and promote regional and national economic development.
The projected investment over the next 30 years is estimated at IDR 104 trillion, with the direct employment of 35,000 people and indirect employment of 64,000 people.
Kura Kura Bali is designed to be a world-class tourism destination that embraces sustainability in line with the local philosophy of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between humans and God, nature, and fellow human beings.
The area will feature a marina, luxury resorts, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, villas, restaurants, and a creative industry hub.
As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Kura Kura Bali has planted over 700,000 trees on Serangan Island, which has become a habitat for around 160 bird species, including migratory birds from Australia and Northern Asia.
Additionally, the area preserves and maintains eight temples, which are managed by the local community as well as authorities from Denpasar City.
Serangan Island is connected to mainland Bali via a bridge, making it easily accessible for visitors. From downtown Denpasar, the journey to Serangan Island takes approximately 30 minutes by motor vehicle.
For tourists arriving from outside Bali, Ngurah Rai International Airport serves as the main entry point, and from there, the trip to Serangan Island takes about 45 minutes.
Kura Kura Bali is a strategic initiative for the development of tourism and creative industries in Bali, with a strong focus on sustainability and cultural preservation.
