Tirta Empul Temple, located in Manukaya Village, Tampaksiring, Gianyar Regency, Bali, is one of the most revered sacred temples on the island.

Established in 962 AD during the reign of the Warmadewa Dynasty, Tirta Empul Temple holds a rich historical legacy.
The name “Tirta Empul” means “holy water spring that emerges from the earth.”
According to legend, the god Indra created the spring to revive his poisoned troops after a battle with King Mayadanawa.
The spring has since become a sacred site for Hindus to perform a cleansing ritual called melukat.
Melukat is a purification ritual performed by bathing under holy water fountains.
At Tirta Empul, there are 30 water spouts used in the ritual, each with its own name and significance.
Visitors, whether Hindu or non-Hindu, can participate in the ritual by following the customary procedures, such as wearing a sarong and bringing offerings.
Tirta Empul Temple is about 42 kilometers from Denpasar, approximately a 1-hour and 10-minute drive.
From Ngurah Rai International Airport, the distance is around 52 kilometers, or about 1 hour and 20 minutes by car.
The temple is also close to Ubud, just about a 30-minute drive away.
The temple is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time.
Entrance fees for domestic tourists are Rp30,000 for adults and Rp20,000 for children.
For international tourists, the ticket is Rp50,000 for adults and Rp25,000 for children.
The ticket includes the rental of a sarong and sash, which are required attire when entering the temple area.
Tirta Empul Temple is equipped with adequate facilities, including parking areas, toilets, storage lockers, and stalls selling souvenirs and snacks.
Sarongs and sashes are also available for rent if needed.
The atmosphere at Tirta Empul is peaceful and serene, with beautiful Balinese architecture and lush surroundings.
In addition to the purification pools, there is a koi pond that adds to the temple’s charm. The temple complex is expansive and filled with various sacred buildings worth exploring.
