Bali International Hospital is Here: Bali is Ready to Become a Medical Tourism Destination

Bali, widely recognized as a world-class tourist destination, is now preparing to become a hub for medical tourism for international travelers.

Bali International Hospital (BIH), located within the Sanur Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for Health, is a strategic project aimed at enhancing international-standard healthcare services in Indonesia.

The construction of this hospital began with a groundbreaking ceremony by President Joko Widodo on December 27, 2021, marking the initial step in developing world-class medical facilities in Bali.

With the establishment of Bali International Hospital, the island now offers not only breathtaking natural beauty and rich cultural heritage but also world-class healthcare services.

This hospital is part of Indonesia’s broader effort to develop a healthcare sector capable of competing on a global scale, attracting visitors who seek not only leisure but also high-quality medical treatment.

The construction of BIH is driven by the need to provide high-quality healthcare services domestically. Currently, around two million Indonesians travel abroad for medical treatment each year, resulting in a foreign exchange loss of up to IDR 97 trillion. With this hospital, Indonesians are expected to receive top-tier medical services without having to seek treatment overseas.

BIH is designed with a total building area of 50,000 square meters across four floors.

The hospital has a capacity of 255 beds and features Centers of Excellence in Cardiology, Oncology, Neurology, Gastroenterohepatology, and Orthopedics (CONGO).

Additionally, BIH integrates the concept of a green hospital, incorporating green spaces and gardens as part of its therapeutic environment for patients.

To ensure international service standards, BIH has partnered with the Mayo Clinic from the United States, one of the world’s leading medical institutions.

This collaboration is expected to enhance the quality of healthcare services in Indonesia and position BIH as a top-tier medical tourism destination.

As of April 2024, the construction progress of BIH has reached 92%, with operations expected to begin in March 2025.

With cutting-edge facilities and world-class services, BIH is set to play a crucial role in Indonesia’s medical tourism ecosystem, further boosting Bali’s healthcare and tourism industries to new heights.

With the presence of Bali International Hospital, Indonesians can now access high-quality healthcare services without the need to travel abroad, while Bali strengthens its position as a leading medical tourism destination worldwide. (BT)
