Exploring the Natural and Cultural Charm of Alas Kedaton, Tabanan

If you are looking for a different kind of nature experience in Bali, Alas Kedaton in Tabanan could be the perfect choice.

Located in Desa Kukuh, Marga District, about a 40–50 minute drive from downtown Denpasar, this area offers a cool, lush forest atmosphere full of pleasant surprises.

As soon as you arrive at Alas Kedaton, you will be welcomed by a canopy of dense trees creating a refreshing and crisp air. Beneath the shade of these trees, thousands of long-tailed macaques roam freely.

They are very accustomed to human presence, so you can observe them up close, feed them, or simply enjoy their playful antics.

In addition to the monkeys, you can also spot giant fruit bats leisurely hanging from the branches.

One of the unique features of Alas Kedaton is the presence of Pura Alas Kedaton, a sacred temple hidden within the forest.

Interestingly, the temple’s layout is different from most others in Bali: the inner courtyard is lower than the outer courtyard, creating a distinct and magical feeling as you stroll around.

To enjoy the beauty of Alas Kedaton, you only need to pay a very affordable entrance fee. The ticket price for domestic tourists is IDR 20,000 for adults and IDR 15,000 for children.

For foreign tourists, the fee is IDR 30,000 for adults and IDR 20,000 for children. Meanwhile, for local Balinese residents, it is only IDR 10,000.

This attraction is open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Bali time, with the best visiting time in the morning when the air is still cool and the natural lighting is perfect for photography.

Alas Kedaton is also equipped with supporting facilities such as a spacious parking area, public toilets, souvenir shops, a children’s play area, and a simple outbound arena.

It is no wonder this place has become a favorite destination for families and school groups looking to introduce children to nature.

However, there are a few tips you should keep in mind before visiting. Since public transportation to Alas Kedaton is still limited, it is advisable to use a private vehicle or rent a motorbike or car.

Also, make sure to keep your valuables safe, as the monkeys here are quite active and curious about bright and interesting objects.

Alas Kedaton offers a harmonious blend of nature and spirituality in Bali. With its peaceful atmosphere, lush greenery, and the friendly presence of its animal inhabitants, your visit here will surely become one of the most memorable moments of your journey on the Island of the Gods. (BT)
