Cleansing the Soul at the Confluence of Two Rivers, The Charm of Pura Taman Pecampuhan Sala

Pura Taman Pecampuhan Sala is one of Bali’s spiritual destinations offering a melukat (purification) experience in a serene and lush natural setting.

Located in Banjar Sala, Abuan Village, Susut Sub-district, Bangli Regency, this temple is a popular site among Hindus for performing self-purification rituals.

The temple is situated approximately 40 km from Denpasar, with a travel time of around 1 to 1.5 hours by private vehicle.

From Bangli town center, the trip takes about 15 minutes. Upon arrival at the parking area, visitors need to descend a 100-meter flight of stairs to reach the melukat site.

While the access roads are in good condition, the parking area is still under development, so using a private vehicle is recommended.

Pura Taman Pecampuhan Sala lies in a valley surrounded by natural forest and the confluence of two crystal-clear rivers, creating a tranquil and peaceful atmosphere.

Near the melukat area, a small waterfall adds to the natural beauty and freshness of the site.

The sound of flowing water and birdsong provides a deeply spiritual experience for visitors.

Melukat is a traditional Balinese ritual of physical and spiritual cleansing using holy water.

At Pura Taman Pecampuhan Sala, there are nine water spouts used in the ritual, each believed to hold specific blessings such as healing, protection from misfortune, financial prosperity, and family harmony.

The purification procession starts at the Campuhan River, continues to the Grojogan Pesiraman Dedari River on the right side, next to the waterfall, then proceeds to the Tirta Prapen spout and Watu Lingga shrine for prayer.

The ritual continues to the Tirta Pule spout and ends at the Grojogan Pesiraman Tan Hana River on the left.

For visitors wishing to perform melukat at Pura Taman Pecampuhan Sala, it is recommended to prepare offerings such as one banten pejati at the melukat site and another at Pura Taman.

Additionally, 15 canang sari and flowers for praying are needed. On certain days, temple priests (pemangku) and local security (pecalang) are present to assist with the purification process.

Pura Taman Pecampuhan Sala is open daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM local time (WITA).

There is no entrance fee, but visitors typically offer a voluntary donation to help maintain the temple and its facilities.

Although the site’s infrastructure is still developing, the natural atmosphere and spiritual serenity make it a worthy destination for those seeking inner peace and spiritual experience. (BT)
